St. Paul & The Broken Bones
St. Paul & The Broken Bones, "All I Ever Wonder"
St. Paul & The Broken Bones is a soul band from Alabama. They have been singing together since 2012, and have just released their second album, Sea of Noise. Will Hermes, in Rolling Stone, states that the band sings "with startling authority" (Will Hermes, "Review: St. Paul & The Broken Bones Prove Modern Power of Classic Sound," Rolling Stone [7 September 1916]).
I first learned about this band, and heard their music, on Saturday Sessions (part of CBS Saturday Morning). The lead singer, Paul Janeway, and his music are flamboyant. Janeway, sports bejeweled, golden shoes that his wife makes for him. He dances while he sings—but his hand movements are actually directing the band: the entire performance is fun to watch.
