Tyler Stenson: We Grow
Tyler Stenson, "We Grow"
Tonight, another song by Tyler Stenson. The opening lyrics caught my attention:
I heard you say that you wish I stayed
An older version of me—long before my change.
But if we're not growing, we are staying the same.
He goes on to say that we are "entitled to change because we grow." In a video posted to his website, Stenson relates how a fan of his first album did not like the second—and wrote to tell him that, saying that he wished Stenson would return to the kind of music he had sung before, because the new music was no good. Stenson waited days to answer his onetime fan; he eventually wrote a calm and measured reply that became the basis of the lyrics for this song.
I find Stenson's lyrics and music compelling. Stenson is a man with things to say: things worth listening to. The music of this song is sweetly beautiful. I am glad to have found Tyler Stenson and his music.
